MobiliseYourCity introduced at the COP 22 in Marrakech

1st-myc-steering-committee-marrakech-11-11-2016On November 11th the German Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit (BMU) and the French Ministère de l’Environnement, de l’Énergie et de la Mer (MEEM) introduced their joint initiative MobiliseYourCity for sustainable urban mobility in emerging and development countries. The initiative is supported by its founding partners the Agence de l’environnement et de la maîtrise de l’énergie (ADEME), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Centre d’études et d’expertise sur les risques, l’environnement, la mobilité et l’aménagement (CEREMA), Cooperation for urban mobility in the developing world (CODATU) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ). On behalf of the BMUB the GIZ TRANSfer Project supports the initiative MobiliseYourCity (MYC) by implementing sustainable local city transport and the planning process of transport related infrastructures. MYC was launched in December 2015 at COP 21 in Paris as an initiative of the Lima-Paris Action Agenda / Global Climate Action Agenda for an initial period of 5 years (2016-2020).

Linking NDCs and NAMAs in the Transport Sector

cop_22_sessionOn November 13th GIZ and CCAP hosted a session that took a good look at the challenges and needs for support in implementing ambitious transport mitigation actions that are also consistent with NDCs and sectoral action plans. Urda Eichhorst, Transport Advisor at GIZ, and Laurence Blandford, CCAPs Director of International Policy, moderated the event, titled “Towards implementing the Paris Agreement in the transport sector: Linking NDCs and NAMAs”. The session was part of SLoCaT’s Transport Day in Marrakech back to back to the 22nd United Nations Climate Conference (COP22).

Knowledge product on NDC review

This short paper presents first propositions on how to increase the involvement and ambition of the transport sector in the further development of NDCs. It is based on early results of an ongoing cooperation between GIZ, SLoCaT and Ricardo Energy & Environment, which analyses the role of the transport sector in INDC development and future NDC implementation.

First steps towards an Urban Transport Authority for the Peruvian capital region of Lima and Callao

Little to no coordination  among regulators, operators, and transportation companies, among others, has resulted in a catastrophic urban transport situation where public transport is dominated by old, small and unsafe units, bus stops are nearly inexistent and the few modern public transport modes miss interconnection, unified ticketing and integrated cycling infrastructure.
